The Congress Poster

Directed by Ari Folman, The Congress tells the tale of an aging actress (Robin Wright) who in her final job decides to preserve her digital likeness for a future Hollywood. The studio can use her likeness in anything it wants to without restriction, in return for a healthy payment to help her care for her sickly son. Twenty years on, her digital double rises to immortal stardom. With her contract expiring, she is invited to attend ‘The Congress’ convention as she makes her own comeback in fantasy cinema.

It certainly sounds like an interesting and timely concept for a film. In these days of internet privacy concerns and intellectual property disputes, it seems useful to ponder about what might happen when a digital version of a person becomes more successful than the flesh and bones one.
