DVD REVIEW: Your Highness

YOUR HIGHNESS becomes available on DVD and Blu-ray from Entertainment One on 8 August 2011. From the director of Pineapple ExpressDAVID GORDON GREENYOUR HIGHNESS is not your average medieval tale. Featuring an all-star cast including funny man of the moment DANNY MCBRIDE, Academy Award® nominatedJAMES FRANCO, Academy Award® winner NATALIE PORTMAN and ZOOEY DESCHANEL

Your Highness is the story of two brothers, Fabious (James Franco) and Thadeous (Danny McBride). Fabious is the successful brother and future king of the land. Thadeous is a screw-up who doesn’t want to do anything except spend his nights with wenches and weed. When Fabious’ fiancée Belladonna (Zooey Deschanel) is kidnapped by the evil wizard Leezar (Justin Theroux) , Leezar  who has a grotesque plan to breed a dragon by forcing himself on a fair maiden Belladonna, a horrifying Satanic ceremony known as “The Fuckening.”

The two brothers must go on a quest to rescue her. They are joined by Thadeous’ squire, Courtney (Rasmus Hardiker), and are later joined by Isabel (Natalie Portman), another adventurer with a grudge against Leezar. Their quest is filled with monsters, betrayal,  before their final confrontation with the wizard.

Relentless in his silliness, defiant in his determination never to let the sword of bad taste sleep in his hand, Danny McBride leads the cast in an immature stoner comedy.

Your Highness is basically ye olde medieval prequel to Pineapple Express, featuring American actors doing a modified dude speak in outrageous cod-Brit accents.

If you like female nudity, anachronisms, violence, knob gags and some child molestation jokes and lots of gay jokes then this movie is defiantly for you.

Special Features on this DVD include gag real, deleted scenes, the making off Your Highness and also audio commentary with,David Gordon Green, James Franco, Justin Theroux and Danny McBride.

I found the Gag reel funnier than the whole movie. The deleted scenes you can tell why they were deleted as there was really no need for them in the movie and the audio commentary will entertain you if you are fans of McBride and Franco.

Conclusion

Not the type of movie I normally gravitate towards, but on a Friday night when there is nothing on TV and you have a few friends over then it will probably entertain the whole group. Parts of it were very funny and other parts just felt a bit crude and unnecessary.
