Elementary – First Look at Footage From the New Sherlock Holmes TV Show

Go behind the scenes of the CBS’s Sherlock Holmes TV show  Elementary

I have to admit that so far I’m not feeling this the show and it’s got nothing to do with the current UK Sherlock Holmes series. I think you can have more than one Holmes TV show and I was looking forward to seeing what direction this one would go in.At the moment the format feels a little too similar to shows like Bones, Castle and the Mentalist (more the mentalist) to be honest   and I was hoping for something a little more unique. I can almost see them setting up ‘the will they won’t they’ stuff between Holmes and Watson.  It’s still early days yet so I will reserve final judgement until I’ve seen a few episodes as I like both the leads (Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Lui) and given the right material they could do well.

What do you guys think?

  1. I’d be interested to see how it developes, but I’m bothered by this rehab/sober companion thing, When Holmes used cocaine it was because he lacked the stimulation of a case, and both Holmes and Watson were prodigious smokers. The rehab thing is just too redolant of American fitness fascism for me and I bet he never touches a pipe, cigarette or cigar.

Yeah good point. I think the other thing that stuck me (and granted it’s only a short look at the show) but he just doesn’t feel like Sherlock Holmes. One of the things Sherlock got right was that straight off it felt like you were watching Sherlock Holmes…yes it was modern day London but he still felt like he had just stepped out of the books. At the moment this Sherlock feels a little more like a more subdued version of the mentalist. Still it’s early days yet and this is the pilot and as someone said on another site pilots can change dramatically, if things don’t work…look at the US version of Life on Mars, they made a lot of changes to that after the first pilot went out.

Fingers crossed Elementary can pull it off.
