Earlier this year I attended the first Birmingham Comics Festival held at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium. Overall I thought the convention, for a first time out, it was great success. There were some interesting panels (with, by far, the best women in comics panels I’ve ever been too) . The show also had nice vibe to it which is probably in part due to the main organiser Steve Tanner. Not only is Steve one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure to meet he also had a range of colourful jackets that make Joseph and his coat of many colours look monochrome.
Clearly I was not the only one who thought the show had legs as it has just been announced that the convention (and Steve’s jacket of many, many colours) will return on Saturday 23rd April 2016 at Edgbaston Cricket Stadium. The organisers have, not surprisingly promised a ‘bigger and better’ event for next year.
For those of you looking to exhibit/sell stuff next year advance booking is already open and for the rest us there is the promise of early booking deals for tickets.
Now with yet another convention finding its stride in the martketplace it’s hard not to worry about supersaturation when it comes to convention. But for now I say lets enjoy the ride and the fact that each new con brings with more opportunities to bring in those folks who might not otherwise be able to get to a convention.
Bring on 2016 and bring on the Birmingham Comics Festival
