Exploring the Culture of Real Life Superheroes

reallifeheroesSo  what is it like to be a real life costumed avenger? Why would anyone take to streets and risk imprisonment or getting themselves beat up or worse?

This short video from an episode of Subculture Club, Thrash Lab explores a community of “Real Life Superheroes” in San Diego and tries to give us a little insight into this interesting subculture. I have to admit I’ve kinda dismissed these guys as a bit silly who sooner or later are going to end up getting themselves into trouble with the law or fall foul of the criminals they are trying to stop.

I think the way this video has been put together and listening to the guys talk about their motivation and hearing some of their stories it’s hard not to see them in a different light.

The question still remains as to whether dressing up in a costume and going out and patrolling the streets helps or hinders. I don’t know if there an answer but there is something to be said in this world where apathy runs rampant that there people are out there who have been inspired to make a difference whether that’s coming from a misguided place or not.

Have a watch and let us know what you think. Is this something you would ever think of doing?
