Stephen Jones OBE is a world-renowned milliner. He’s teaming up with The British Fashion Council’s ‘Headonism’ designers and Disney to create seven masks inspired by the new film The Lone Ranger.

The collection will celebrate the art of millinery (hat making) and its influence in the film. Jones has created two of the masks, while the five designers of the ‘Headonism’ initiative will be mentored by him. They will then create their own masks inspired by The Lone Ranger.

The five designers are Aurora Ozma, Emma Yeo, Moody and Farrell, Piers Atkinson and William Chambers. One of the designers whose design I think will be pretty cool is Piers Atkinson’s. His work with feathers is amazing and I think this will tie in with the film really well.

Although her designs would fit in well with The Lone Ranger in terms of shape and colour, I think Emma Yeo’s work would look incredible perched on Effie Trinket’s head in The Hunger Games. It’s bold, extravagant and both the skeletal and flower inspired sculptures are amazing. I’d love to see her work in the film!

The haute couture masks will be unveiled at the UK premier of The Lone Ranger, which will take place at the Odeon Leicester Square on Sunday 21st July.  After that, the masks will be put on display for one night only at Proud Galleries in Camden on Thursday 25th July. The pop up saloon event inspired by The Lone Ranger will present an evening of fashion, film and music.

I think it’s brilliant that The British Fashion Council are looking for ways to team up with a variety of companies, to create wonderful pieces of art that link different specialisms together.

I’ll keep my eye out for the finished masks!
