Fortress of Pulpitude: Pulp Fiction Bookshop, Premier Pulp, Sinbad and The Black Beetle Returns

Finally the Fortress of Pulpitude opens its doors once again to let some pulpy goodness spill out. I was in Edinburgh last month and had a great time  at the fantastic fringe festival. While I was up there wandering the streets I stumbled upon the sign above for a bookshop called Pulp Fiction.

I entered unsure what to expect and what I found was a great little book shop, which although has other types of books and comics has a very heavy focus on all things pulp. The shop also had a nice coffee shop attached to it and sofas where people could just have a seat, grab a slice of cake or a sandwich and a coffee while they read their purchases. If you’re a fan of pulp and are in Edinburgh then it’s well worth check out.

Premier Pulp! Digital Comics Anthology

Get your free pulp fix online with a brand new comics anthology which has already published three free issues online. The team behind the anthology have an open door policy and are looking for folks from all parts of the comic creation process (writers, artists, colourists, letterers etc). More than just putting out their anthology Pulp! want to help craft and hone the skills of the current and next generation of comic creators by providing them with help and advice. In the future this will include tutorials, features and interviews, something that they are also interested in looking for people to be involved with. Any work that is put out by Pulp will remain the property of its creator and gives them the right to republish their work anywhere they see fit.

It sounds a like a fantastic way to collaborate in a project and worth a look see. If you want to find out more you can check out the submission details here and the current deadlines here.

The Black Beetle Returns

I missed Black Beetle first time around but I’ve seen the art on Francavilla’s website so I’ll be picking up all of these I reckon! It’ll be hitting store shelves on December 19th.

In Night Shift, an ancient artifact known as the Hollow Lizard—a powerful totem of dark magic—shows up at the Colt City Natural History Museum. Hitler sends his fearsome Werwolf Korps to collect the piece in hopes it will help him unlock the secrets of ancient Egypt’s Black Priests. Unfortunately for the führer, Colt City’s protector, the Black Beetle, is on the case!

In No Way Out, Black Beetle’s investigation of two local mob bosses is interrupted when a mysterious explosion murders them and a pub full of gangsters—taking out most of Colt City’s organized crime in one fell swoop. Who could pull off such a coup, and what damage might that murderous bomber inflict upon Colt City and Black Beetle?
