Fox cuts Dollhouse ….ish

So I was just checking my twitter feed last night and I noticed the following tweet from Felicia Day (she of “The Guild” and “Dr Horribles Singalong Blog” fame.

feliciadayMan, day getting worse and worse. Found out my Dollhouse ep, #13 isn’t gonna air. Only on DVD. Such a great part too. Thx Fox. 🙁

Apparently she was in the 13th episode of Dollhouse and fans noticed that the season finale as listed by Fox was episode 12.  Dollhouse appears to bhave picked up on the ratungs so the first thought is that Fox, (the channel with a reputation of cancelling good shows), have done it again.

However the is an argument that goes like this.  Fox paid for 13 shows and as the pilot episode was shot twice then the debt is paid.  But then why is there a 13th episode in the first place.  Sources say that the story in the season finale is mor or less Whedon’s vision for how the season would end but I say again, why a 13th episode that’s not going to be aired.

Then Tim Minnear came to the rescue and cleared it all up by posting on Whedonesque.

“Okay. So maybe I can help clarify this somewhat. Because we scrapped the original pilot — and in fact cannibalized some of its parts for other eps — we really ended up with 12 episodes. But the studio makes DVD and other deals based on the original 13 number. So we created a standalone kind of coda episode. Which is the mythical new episode 13. The network had already paid for 13 episodes, and this included the one they agreed to let us scrap for parts. It does not include the one we made to bring the number back up to 13 for the studio side and its obligations. We always knew it would be for the DVD for sure, but we also think Fox should air it because it’s awesome.”

As to wether it gets renewed we still don’t know just yet.
