A Frost-y Christmas for Doctor Who

The BBC confirmed today that comedic actor / writer Nick Frost is set to star in a guest role in this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special. Nick Frost seems pleased with this appearance:

“I’m so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas special, I’m such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream “No spoilers!” Every day on set I’ve had to silence my internal fan boy squeals!”

I’m not really sure why, but I always love it when fans of the show guest star. I think their performance is somehow heightened by their fanhood! Steven Moffat is also pleased with the casting:

“Frost at Christmas – it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the Tintin movie many years ago and it’s a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the TARDIS.”

In addition, we have learned today that Michael Troughton will also appear in the episode. Michael is the son of the man who (in my opinion) really ensured the longevity of the television series that has become a national institution. Coronation Street‘s Natalie Gumede, The White Queen‘s Faye Marsay and Misfit‘s Nathan McMullen have also been announced as having roles in the Christmas special. No news has yet emerged as to the plot of the special, or even the names of the characters that these actors will portray.
