Golden Joystick Awards Voting Hits 1.5 Million & Twitch Confirmed As Partner

Voting for the 2014 Golden Joystick Awards Presented by Green Man Gaming, has once again eclipsed expectations and is up year-on-year to a staggering 1.5 million in just over three weeks.

Taking place on the afternoon of Friday 24th October at the indigO2 in the world famous O2 Arena, The Golden Joysticks is the world’s most popular and credible games awards and is the only annual awards voted for by gamers. In 2013, an incredible 10 million people cast their votes in what was a record breaking year. Public voting is open now at www.goldenjoystick.com.

The recently released Destiny, has been added to Game of the Year, Best Online Game, Best Audio and Best Visual Design categories and is available to vote for now. This colossus game has taken the world by storm and looks to eclipse a multiple of gaming records set before it. It’s reported that in its first five day of sales, it made a $325 million and shipped over an incredible 8 million copies.

On Destiny’s late inclusion to the shortlist, Andy Robinson, Editor of CVG, says; “In our mission to make the Joysticks as relevant as possible to modern gamers, we decided to stretch this year’s nomination window right up to the ceremony in October. With its recent critical and commercial success, our editorial panel felt Destiny fully deserved to be included in the 2014 voting and agreed its addition to four categories.”

Twitch, the world’s leading video platform and community for gamers, has been confirmed as an official media partner of this years awards. Broadcasting the evening live to its dedicated gaming community, the Golden Joysticks will also bring an exclusive five part series analysing nominated games for this years awards. Recently purchased by Amazon for allegedly $1 billion, it’s reported to be the fourth-largest source of U.S. internet traffic behind only Netflix, Google and Apple.

Now in its 32nd year, the 2014 awards have 16 reader voted categories, with additional special awards being chosen by an expert panel consisting of the editorial teams. The awards recognise every aspect of the world of gaming with gongs including Best Original Game, Studio of the Year, Best Visual Design and Game of the Year.

The Golden Joysticks shortlist was chosen by an editorial panel comprised of Future games staff from publications including CVG, PC Gamer, Edge, Kotaku UK and more.
