GS TABLE GAME ROUND UP: #1 Aliens, Next Gen Tabletop And New Releases

This week we hear about Alien, Tabletop next gen games, Essen and some new releases.

On the table no one can hear you scream!

The first thing on our news update is news about the deck building game from Upper Deck Called Legendary Encounters. On it’s own this does not sound that great but what you might not know is that Upper Deck also published the Marvel Legendary Deck Building Game which we will be reviewing in the next month and this game seems to be based on the same rules or mechanics but is set around the 4 Alien movies.

I have played the Marvel Deck building game and I have to say as much as a Marvel fan that I am I prefer the DC deck building but that could be down to only having played the Marvel one twice. This news about the Alien set game is great because who does not want to play a game where you have to destroy the Xenomorphs with a pulse rifle as you build your deck of cards.

Also to note is that Upper Deck have mentioned that they may be bringing Predator and Firefly versions as well and that it looks like it is compatible with the other games. Great news for fans and gamers.

Legendary™ Encounters: An ALIEN Deck Building Game. While the game can be played on its own, Upper Deck is working to incorporate certain elements from the Marvel Legendary Deck Building Game to be compatible with the new ALIEN game.

“Fans of the popular ALIEN, PREDATOR and FIREFLY franchises crave one-of-a-kind and engaging merchandise even now, years after the films and television series debuted,” said Roz Nowicki, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Retail at Fox Consumer Products. “We are looking forward to a continued partnership with Upper Deck, expanding our trading card offering to collectors and fans of these beloved sci-fi titles.”

“Bringing in the popular ALIEN, PREDATOR and FIREFLY franchises to expand our Legendary Deck Building game portfolio just makes sense,” said Jason Masherah, President of Upper Deck. “At Upper Deck we aren’t looking to just push out dozens of different games, in hopes that one or two might succeed. We believe that it is more important to focus our efforts and invest heavily in creating what we know will be a great gaming experience for our audience.”

The next step in table top gaming?

This kickstarter project only has a few days left but it could be the next evolution to tabeltop games for the next generation of gamers. People are always saying that it can be daunting to learn all the rules to some games but with this project Jordan Weisman the designer of Battletech, Mage Knight and Heroclicx has combined gameplay with modern technology. Golem Arcana uses a cool looking stylus and an ipad to make easy for anyone to pick up and play. Also the miniatures look really cool and fully painted.

Did you ever see someone playing a tabletop miniatures game with all those cool painted figures and wish you had the time to read all the rules or learn how to paint well? Or did you used to play tabletop minis games and had to stop because of your busy schedule? Or maybe you play all the time and want a way to get your friends or family members into miniatures gaming too. Well, these are some of the reasons why we’re creating Golem Arcana – the digitally-enhanced miniatures game.

The key to Golem Arcana’s seamless connection between the tabletop and your mobile device is the Bluetooth-enabled Tabletop Digital Interface Stylus (TDI). The stylus sends the tabletop game information to your touchscreen phone or tablet, making record-keeping automatic. Important game information is all quickly searchable at your fingertips. Plus, all Golem Arcana figures come fully assembled and painted* so you can start playing right out of the box.

Sounds cool right well head over to the Kickstarter site HERE to watch the video which explains how the game works and how you can help to make it a reality.

The biggest Game Convention in the world is weeks away.

Germany is a mecca for board games and also the location of Essen Spiel, the place to be for new games and old favourites. 24th to the 27th October are the dates where every major games publisher and also independents will be showing what they have and also bringing along some demo’s to play. There will also be the International Gamers Award plus many more world championships happening. To find out more go HERE but we will be keeping up with all the latest news from Essen when it happens on the site and on Twitter. Check out the trailer below.

SPIEL in Essen means: Four days of fun, meeting friends, playing and testing thousands of games and novelties together with gamers from all over the world. Make up your own mind about the quality of the international gaming market and feel free to buy your favourite ones!

New Releases for the next few weeks.

A new release for the ever popular game that uses pictures to tell a story.

Dixit 4 is a new expansion for Dixit with 84 new cards that feature fantastic and surrealistic artwork. These cards can be used with the
components of the base game to provide more variety or used to play the Dixit game on their own (note there is no scoring board, voting tokens or rulebook rules). Dixit is a storytelling game where players must tell a story using beautiful but wacky image cards to
illustrate it. With a fantastic range of beautiful illustrations and rules that can be understood by children and adults alike, Dixit will appeal to anyone with an imagination.

I am a huge fan for getting the younger members of the family into board gaming especially in this time of so many cool new games. This one sounds like a fun easy and fast paced game for the whole family to enjoy.

Jungle Speed Safari. Normally, calm reigns supreme amongst the animals of the jungle. But when the time comes to eat, the animals gather round the forest of totems and their wild instincts take over. The hungriest animals race to catch their prey first. Others become angry and shout, whilst the chameleon hides. When the hunter appears, there is panic! The animals must protect themselves.

Want a board game that has cool miniatures, a sport theme and dragons? Well Helvetia Cup has you covered in what looks like a very cool looking game. A cool idea is that it has a family rule set and also a Geek rule.

Helvetia was created not only from diplomatic relations, but also out of war. There is no longer bloodshed amongst the people of Helvetia, though, as they now prefer to express their rivalry another way. They do it by way of a new sport: the Helvetia Cup.

HELVETIA Cup is a game of simulation football that blends tactical skill, strategy and luck and is set in a fantasy world, with each player acting as a coach in epic games and titanic championships. HELVETIA Cup has both a family version and a geek version.
