GS TABLE GAME ROUND UP: #2 Templars, The Next Monopoly, Swashbucklers And World Championships

This weeks table game news updates has a cool kickstarter project for Lords of War. A World Championship for Ticket Ride open to all over 18 years old and some cool new releases.

Templars Versus Undead.

Yep you heard right The Knights Templars are about to kick off with the Undead in the excellent Lords of War card game. So far the Lords of War have released 4 factions across 2 game sets which are Orcs, Dwarves, Lizardmen and Elves. Loo out soon for our review of Lords of War but trust me it is a great little card game that everyone can pick up and play. Over the past month I have had great fun playing this game and getting to grips with the various factions but news of the undead and the Templars fill me with glee but they need your help to make it a reality. They will start the project on Kickstarter on the 5th November till the 14th December. Trust me when I say this is a great project so please support it.

You can find out more on the Lords of War site or their Facebook page.

Is this the new successor to an outdated Monopoly ?

Monopoly is one the biggest selling games of all time because of the game dynamic and also now with the various themes but is it outdated now? Well the folks at Center for International Forestry Research think they have the next best game that also teaches about the environment.

Do you know that almost a billion people in the world have played the game Monopoly and millions of people are playing SimCity? Do you know that neither Monopoly or SimCity consider ecosystem sustainability and global warming?

The Landscape Game offers a more intelligent game that is fun, environmentally conscious and sensitive to government policy and market dynamics. The Landscape Game operates on a landscape, which is a mosaic of various land cover and land use patches that work as an ecosystem. Through this game, stakeholders can experiment with the likely impacts of human actions in a landscape where competing land uses and policy dynamics interact. Policy makers can learn how to maintain and improve the sustainability and productivity of a landscape by using various policy instruments, e.g., rules, taxes, land use, incentives and disincentives.

This game introduces a variety of concepts such as landscape conservation, development, environmental services, investment alternatives, trade among players, competition and collaboration. The game challenges rational players to maximize their revenues, while at the same time taking care of the ecological and social conditions. Players who play to benefit these indicators will be rewarded at the end of the game.

New Releases for the next few weeks.

Fans of Descent:  Journeys in the Dark Second Edition will be happy with this new release The Trollfens.

The Trollfens. The vicious Bol’Goreth rampages through the wildlands at the edge of the Valdari Marsh, and those left in his wake babble terrifying tales of destruction. However, dark rumors hint at something more sinister behind the simple-minded brutality: something horrific that threatens to spill out across the realm.

The Trollfens is an expansion for Descent: Journeys in the Dark Second Edition that introduces new heroes, monsters, classes, quests, and more. Heroes can discover and investigate secret rooms and rumors while the overlord spreads infection and brings a powerful new lieutenant into play: the massive troll Bol’Goreth! Find out more HERE

Swashbucklers get ready for adventure on the high seas with Francis Drake.

Francis Drake is a highly interactive game of high adventure, where players are swashbuckling Elizabethan privateers looking to follow in the footsteps of Francis Drake by mounting three voyages of their own deep into the Spanish Main. There, they will be looking to trade for exotic commodities, raid Spanish Towns and Forts, and search for the huge Treasure Galleons carrying the riches of the Aztec and Incan Empires back to Spain.

Keep saving the world in this new expansion for Pandemic. This game just keep getting better and dare I say it harder.

Pandemic: In the Lab. Behind sealed bio-hazard doors, scientists race against time to sequence diseases and test cures. Take samples and develop cures in the Lab challenge and play on your own or as rival teams (for 4 or 6 players).

• Extend the On the Brink challenges with new Virulent Strain Events or the
Worldwide Panic Mutation scenario.
• Once during your turn, as an action, you may give a City card that matches the
colour of the city you are in to a player in any city of the same colour.
• Lab Challenge: once per turn, at a research station, you may either Characterize a
Disease or Test a Cure as a free bonus action connected to the city you are in.
• Once per turn, you may move another player’s pawn in your city, or a city connected
to it, by Drive/Ferry. Doing this is a free bonus action

Firefly The Game is getting ready to land in the UK but in case you want to know more this is what it is all about. I have seen this played and looks fun and engaging.

In Firefly: The Game – based on the popular Firefly television series created by Joss Whedon – players captain their own Firefly-class transport ship, traveling the ‘Verse with a handpicked crew of fighters, mechanics and other travelers. As a captain desperate for work, players are compelled to take on any job — so long as it pays. Double-dealing employers, heavy-handed Alliance patrols and marauding Reavers are all in a day’s work for a ship’s captain at the edge of the ‘Verse. Firefly: The Game is a high-end thematic tabletop board game from Gale Force Nine (GF9) and the first in a series of tabletop hobby board games and miniatures games from GF9 set in the Firefly Universe.
