NYCC 2012: Guess Who’s Back? Agent Coulson in S.H.I.E.L.D!

You could hear the ecstatic shrieks of hundreds of geeks today during the Marvel Television panel at New York Comic Con. Why? Well, the big news that had Avengers fans so excited is that Clark Gregg, better known as Agent Phil Coulson, will be bringing the character back to life in Joss Whedon’s ABC pilot, S.H.I.E.L.D!

Walking out to chants of “Coulson! Coulson!” the actor, who’s currently working on his film “Trust Me”, took the stage after an emotional tribute to his character in a trailer reel.  Suddenly, Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige appeared on-screen:

“From before we made ‘The Avengers,’ we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death. … The fact of the matter is, as much as we love him, now that I’m really running Marvel, I like to keep a type of artistic integrity, which means we don’t stretch the bounds of reality.”

“There was never going to be a ‘S.H.I.E.L.D.’ show without Agent Phil Coulson!” said Feige wearing a COULSON LIVES shirt.

The show will be executive produced by Joss Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon as well as Maurissa Tancharoen, Jeph Loeb and Jeffrey Bell. What do you think of the news? Were you already going to tune in or has this news changed your mind?
