Harry Potter in 3D…well 25 minutes of it.

Harry Potter fan ?

Love watching movies in 3D ?

Love Imax ?

Is the answer is yes then your love this piece of news from Dark Horizons. It seems that Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince will not only be shown on Imax but 25 minutes of it will be in 3D.

According to the IMAX co-CEO Rich Gelfond the 3D footage will be

“split between the opening sequence of the film and the finale.”

  1. That has got to be one of the least precise comments ever “Sometime during the movie there will be 3D bits”. Interesting for fans of the bespectacled useless teenager though.

I saw the last Harry Potter in IMAX 3D and was extremely disappointed.

The majority of the film was in standard IMAX, and I was fine with that.

Just as the intense climactic scene started, a bright green light flashed in the theater to tell me to put on the glasses. This distraction brought me out of the fantasy world in which I’d been so engrossed. While it took me about five seconds to put on the glasses, the light continued to flash for about a minute.

Truth be told, I didn’t see any need to watch this in 3D. The effects were really not that stunning, probably because the film was converted into 3D rather than being filmed in a 3D format.

I got used to the glasses and went back into the world of Hogwarts. Af few minutes before the film ended, a red light started flashing to indicate that I should take off the glasses. Again, that took about 5 seconds and the light flashed for a minute or so.

This was NOT my favorite IMAX experience, to say the least.

cheers for the heads up Kristtorn looks like IMAX won’t be getting my money for the next movie if it’s going to come out like that.
