David Bradley, who played the grumpy school caretaker  in the Harry Potter films is set to take on an even more iconic role as William Hartnell in the ninety minute BBC Drama An Adventure in Space and Time.

The story which charts the creation of the Doctor Who TV Show back in the sixties is being written by Mark Gatiss and will feature Bradley as Hartnell, who played the first doctor. I think this is a nice piece of casting in fact I would rather we not have a drama on the creation of the show and have Bradley doing a one off Doctor Who episode as the first Doctor.

“I first heard about this role from Mark while watching the Diamond Jubilee flotilla from the roof of the National Theatre,” said Bradley, who played the character of Solomon in 2012 episode Dinosaurs on a Spaceship.

“When he asked if I would interested, I almost bit his hand off! Mark has written such a wonderful script not only about the birth of a cultural phenomenon, but a moment in television’s history.

“William Hartnell was one of the finest character actors of our time and as a fan I want to make sure that I do him justice. I’m so looking forward to getting started.” – BBC

  1. William Hartell was one of the best doctors, irascible mysterious and grumpy he was a highlight of my childhood TV memories

  2. He looks much better as a Doctor.. lol

  3. John Schiltz /

Really not convinced regarding this . Would have regarded someone
like John McEnery as being closer. Could be a harsh caricature if
    not handled carefully.
