An inside look at the “Harry Potter the Quest” Website

As the eighth and final Harry Potter film nears it’s release date and Warner Bros is forced to put it’s magical cash cow out to pasture they are pulling out all the stops one last time.

We already know that the plans for premiere on July 7th are going to be huge with the final film descending upon Trafalgar Square as if the Ministry of Magic has done a backroom deal with The Mayor of London. What you may not be aware of is that besides the premiere Warner Bros are also taking on the world of social media in a big way to get he word out about ‘the boy who lived’ and his magical adventures.

Harry Potter the Quest website is currently in it’s soft launch phase before, getting it’s official unveiling to the muggle world wide web. Several days ago Geek Syndicate were one of a handful of people invited to a special webinar in which Warner Bros gave us a demo of the new website.

The website itself is an intriguing idea and looks very slick. Fans of the films can use this site to rack up points by performing tasks such as viewing content and playing games. They can then use various tools to publicise their achievements to the world. This is done via the usual social media suspects of Twitter, Facebook and more. All of this website usage not only builds up your personal score but it adds to an overall score for the website. This overall score is comprised of everyone who uses the website and as the level rises it will unlock access to special features on the website such as exclusive deleted scenes and behind the scenes videos from all the Harry Potter films and more. You are also able to use the website to communicate with other Harry Potter fans around the world along with the chance to win prizes for those using the website.

Registration for Harry Potter: The Quest is free. Registered participants are eligible to receive monthly prizes such as Noble Collection Harry Potter merchandise, tickets to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando Resort, Blu-rays, DVDs, Games and more.

In addition, there will be two Grand Prize sweepstake opportunities for registrants of Harry Potter: The Quest. The first sweepstake opportunity is a chance to win tickets for two to attend the world premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 in London this July. The secondsweepstake opportunity will be announced later in the year.

The quest website will also be available in different language so that everyone around the world will have the chance to experience what the site has to offer.

It’s definitely an ambitious social media idea and worth a look-see if you’re a Harry Potter fan. I guess the real test of the website will be on what sort of exclusive content the fans will be able to access and how often this will happen. I think this combined with the social aspect and the prizes on offer will be the measure on whether fans make return trips to the website.

If you give the site a go then please let us know what you think.
