He-Man Hits Reboot Territory

Yes it was only a matter of time wasn’t it? Masters Of The Universe, Mattel toy, cult 80’s TV show and err a rather rubbish film starring Courtney Cox and Ivan Drago may well be making a big screen comeback. It’s reboot time once again and this time He-Man is very much in the frame.

Jon M Chuis is in talks to direct a live action version of Master Of The Universe coming care of Sony Picture & Escape Artists producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch.  Chuis is current woking on the should have been released this year but wasn’t G.I. Joe: Retaliation, which now wont arrive until 2013 after the studio decided the film was rubbish/ needed more Channing Tatum/ Wanted to post convert to 3D/ Insert own excuse here.

The property has been around for years, as several studios tried to rectify the Cannon Films 1987 flopper that starred Dolph Lungdren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Which wasn’t actually as bad as you remember.  No honest!

Whilst the film was a flop, the characters have been much more successful in animation for TV.  Escape Artists sparked to a strong script turned in by the writing team of Alex Litvak and Mike Finch. Litvak scripted The Three Musketeers and Five Against A Bullet, and Finch scriptedExclusively Yours. The scribes developed the script under the title Grayskull, but it has gone back to the Mattel brand.
