Henry Cavill talks Justice League: ‘It Won’t Be Right Away’

rsz-man-of-steel-logo-2013Man of Steel has reaped nearly $400 million worldwide so far, which is great news for Warner Bros, as this reboot wasn’t just about relaunching the Superman brand, but desperately needed to establish a whole expanded DC universe, with the potential to compete with Marvel’s Avengers in the form of a Justice League movie. Yet, despite the film’s success, Warner has been tight-lipped about any their future movie plans, outside of the recent news that they’re fast-tracking Man of Steel 2: Steel Harder (rumoured title) for a 2014 release.

But in a new interview with Superman himself, it’s clear he has some thoughts on the possibility of a Justice League movie. Says Cavill: “Justice League could be great if done correctly. It’s a very tough one to do because the DC comic heroes are all god-like in their power. So in this real world universe, real-world setting we’re telling our story in, it’s going to be tough to achieve that. It has to be done very delicately with a lot of thought. So, it won’t be right away. I hope it’s not, anyway. It may take some time of building up other movies and other characters and introducing them together in one way or another.”

A previously stated by myself, Cavill also cites the difficulty in establishing DC characters outside of The Batman; unlike the relatively earthbound Avengers, the Justice League is composed of powerful near non-humans like Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman & the Martian Manhunter endowed with incredible powers. Man of Steel, by comparison, strove to bring a more real-world feel to the Superman legend… Nolan’s Dark Knight world, if you will. It will take some time to mix together the different super-powered characters into that reality and make them fit harmoniously. But then again, a few years ago, who would have thought that playboy tech-her0 Iron Man and demi-god Thor could work on-screen together…
