The inaugural Birmingham Comics Festival will happen on Saturday the 18th of April and to help get the anticipation going, locals in the Birmingham area are invited to a pre-celebratory knees up.
The Victoria Theatre Pub will be hosting a get together on the evening of Wednesday April 1st to launch the debut of the festival.
“… comic fans over the age of 18 are invited to pop along on the evening and partake of all that the historic public house has to offer. Come chat and hobnob with local media personalities and comic book creators, find yourself being sketched by a local cartoonist, hear about other events taking place during the festival but most importantly of all, be prepared to test your wits in a comic book quiz of courtly precision with assorted prizes to be won over a series of individual and team games.”
As a citizen of Birmingham I can attest to what a lovely venue the Victoria is. Located alongside the New Alexandra Theatre, the pub dates back to the 19th Century and has a wealth of history connected to it.
It is a popular drinking venue in the city and it already has a connection to the comic book scene.
“… the pub offers quality handpicked wines, cask ales and cocktails and was voted one of the Top Ten Gastro Pubs in the UK. It is also a monthly venue for the Midlands comics community, as hosted by Nostalgia & Comics, who are sponsoring the evening’s entertainment with management team member David Dearn taking on the role of quizmaster.”
Nostalgia and Comics is an institution in the Midlands comic book scene and I personally cannot think of better hosts for an evening of drink and comic book chat.
The Birmingham Comics Festival itself will be taking place at the Edgbaston Cricket Stadium later in the month. More information and how to book tickets can be found here:
