Ian McKellen & Andy Serkis Confirmed for “The Hobbit”

The confirmations are coming fast and furious as returning members from the Lord of the Rings trilogy have signed on to return to the shire. Both the Hollywood Reporter and Deadline are reporting that both Andy Serkis and Ian McKellen are returning for Peter Jackson’s two-film adaptation of The Hobbit, joining Cate Blanchett and Elijah Wood.

Cast members who have yet to sign on include Orlando Bloom – an offer is out for him to reprise his role as the elven archer, Legolas; Christopher Lee is in talks to return to his role as the wizard Saruman, and Ian Holm to return as an older version of Bilbo Baggins. Martin Freeman is playing the title role in the two new movies.

The Hobbit begins filming in New Zealand on February 14th, also known as Valentine’s Day. Wishing them lots of love for what will probably be a grueling shoot!
