Few would argue that Supernatural’s 11th Season was one of its best for years. Since Eric Kripke (show creator and original show runner) departed the series at the end of Season 5, the show has struggled through some weak big bads and disappointing story arcs. There have been incredible visuals (I maintain the fall of the angels at the end of Season 8 to be one of the most beautiful shots in TV history), and ridiculous villains (we all want to forget the Leviathans ever happened, right?).
The series has fallen into a pattern that is difficult to get out of; constantly one-upping itself year after year. You think that Apocalypse was tough for the boys to avoid? Well guess who is bringing the next one!
But where do you go when your latest Apocalyptic story centered on God and his sister, The Darkness?
Back to your roots, that’s where.
At SDCC (San Diego Comic Con) we were able to sit down with Supernatural cast members Jensen Ackles, Jared Padelecki, Misha Collins, Mark Sheppard, Ruth Connell, Samantha Smith, and new showrunners Robert Singer and Andrew Dabb to get some info on how the series will return to the most important part of the story they’ve been telling us for 11 years now; A story about family.
