J.J. Abrams Set to Direct Next ‘Star Wars’ Film

Children's Defense Fund-California 22nd Annual "Beat the Odds" Awards - ArrivalsSpeculation has been running rampant about who would direct the new Star Wars movie since it was first announced. Now we may have an answer!

Updated 1/26: It’s been confirmed by Disney that J.J Abrams is indeed the one set to direct the next film for Disney. This probably isn’t a surprise as Abrams’ name always came up when anyone tried to figure out who the lucky person would be.

Although he’s stated in the past that he wasn’t going to take the job, it looks like the force was too strong to deny. Abrams is currently working on post-production for “Star Trek Into Darkness,” the sequel to the highly successful Star Trek reboot. But possibly the most important person to impress is the creator himself, George Lucas. He was quoted as saying:

“I’ve consistently been impressed with J.J. as a filmmaker and storyteller. He’s an ideal choice to direct the new Star Wars film and the legacy couldn’t be in better hands.”

What do you all think of the news? Were you expecting someone else to be chosen?

  1. Expect a ton of Star Warriors (I just coined that term) to irrationally lose it over this.
