Marvel Mutterings: Avengers, Cap Am, Big Hero 6, Ant-Man & Gambit

Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide witterings!

This week: the first trailer for Avengers 2, a Stark addition to Cap Am 3, Big Hero 6’s BIG trailer, GI Joe’s opening Gambit and Ant-Man writes his own script!

Avengers: The Age of Ultron: Unless you have been living under a rock, you can’t fail to have noticed that there is a new first trailer out for the Avengers sequel, The Age of Ultron:

Captain America 3: although we can look forward to see Ol’ Shellhead in Avengers 2, Robert Downey Jnr has to date shot down an dialogue pertaining to a 4th Iron Man film. Well, rumours suggest that Downey is negotiating to star in Captain America 3. After three Iron Man movies, two Avengers (counting the one to come) and a cameo in The Incredible Hulk, it would be the star’s seventh outing as Stark, making him level with Hugh Jackman in the “playing the same superhero” league. What could this mean? Well, Marvel have just announced a reboot of the Civil War comic book series for 2015, build fan hopes that Cap Am / Iron Man could face off in the story line for the big screen, especially given the deep political tone of The Winter Soldier.

Marvel’s Big Hero 6: proving that the big boys aren’t the only ones out with new trailer

X-Men – Gambit: Channing Tatum offered an update on his Gambit solo movie, which could spin-off out of X-Men: Apocalypse: “We’re finding a writer and sort of beating it out. I don’t want to give too much away because we don’t know that much right now other than we obviously know who Gambit is. We really do want to try our hardest to give something fresh. We’re obviously going to go to the saving the world superhero movies eventually, but maybe not for the first one. We kind of want to introduce this character in a very different way. When you try to do something different, you never really know right off the bat what that is. We’re feeling our way into it. And really just have got to prove that concept of that person.”

Ant-Man: according to new Ant-Man director Adam McKay, star Paul Rudd has stepped up above & beyond the call of duty to help out with the troubled production: “[Rudd] called me when Edgar Wright stepped away from the project and told me what was going on. I went and met with Marvel, and I was a little dubious just because I’m friends with Edgar and I didn’t know what the story was, and then when I kind of heard what happened, that Edgar had parted ways, and then I saw their materials, I was like, ‘God this is pretty cool’.

“Ultimately I didn’t want to jump in as a director, I had too many other projects going and it was too tight, but I thought, ‘You know what, I can rewrite this, and I can do a lot of good by rewriting it. So the two of us holed up in hotel rooms on the east and west coast, and I think it was like six to eight weeks we just ground it out and did a giant rewrite of the script. I was really proud of what we did, I really thought we put some amazing stuff in there and built on an already strong script from Edgar Wright and sort of just enhanced some stuff.

“We just shaped the whole thing, we just tried to streamline it, make it cleaner, make it a little bigger, a little more aggressive, make it funnier in places—we just basically did a rewrite. Edgar had a really good script. But we just had a blast, and Rudd was just so much fun to write with. I walked away saying, ‘Hey, you and I gotta write a script together.’”
