Marvel Mutterings: Avengers, Fantastic Four, Mandarin & SHIELD

Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide witterings!

This week: Red Skull’s right hand man in Avengers 2, casting the Fantastic 4, and first clips from The Mandarin’s One Shot and Big Daddy’s turn in Agents of SHIELD!

Avengers: Age of Ultron: Dracula star Thomas Kretschmann has been added to the cast of Avengers: Age Of Ultron as the villainous Baron Strucker. Created by Stan Lee & Jack Kirby in 1964, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker was the Red Skull’s second-in-command, and later the leader of the Skull’s terrorist organisation Hydra, which neatly ties in with the plot threads from Captain America: The First Avenger. However, in addition to all that, rumours in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, are that Strucker could wind up fathering Quicksilver and the Scarlet Witch – a nice touch given the comic-book version of Strucker too, had twins – Andrea and Andreas von Strucker, aka Fenris and Swordsman, and also given that Marvel can’t use Mag – shhh… you know who! Like Wanda and Pietro, Andrea and Andeas were also mutants, as a result of their father’s genetic tampering with their embryos, also a nice way of sidestepping shhh… you know who!

Fantastic Four: Casting stories seems to be all over the place, but the current betting puts a handful of actors up for each role in Josh Trank’s Fantastic Four reboot, although there’s been no screen tests to date. Miles Teller – widely tipped to be Reed Richards, aka Mr Fantastic, was quoted as saying, “Yeah, that should be coming up in the next few weeks.” Teller is joined by Game Of Thrones stars Kit Harington and Richard Madden in contention for the Mr Fantastic, while Chronicle‘s Michael B Jordan seems the controversial dead cert for Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. Additionally, American Horror Story‘s Kate Mara and Saoirse Ronan are both up for Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman.

The Mandarin: The first clip is out for the latest Marvel One-Shot feature: (Sir) Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery / The Mandarin appears at Seagate Prison in Marvel’s Hail To The King. Now infamous, Slattery is locked up in a high security prison, and being followed by a documentary film crew. This prologue sets the scene…

Hail To The King will appear on the Thor: The Dark World DVD, Blu-ray and iTunes version, coming 24 February
