Marvel Mutterings: Captain America, Ant-Man, Thor & Agents of SHIELD

Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide witterings!

This week: Captain America gets a 3rd outing, Ant-Man will start in the ’60s, Thor’s 3rd outing in safe hands and Agents of SHIELD get a new key character!

Captain America: Even though the film is not even out yet, it looks like Marvel is happy with the Captain America: The Winter Soldier directors Anthony & Joe Russo, as it seems the studio has already signed them up for the third Cap film. The brothers were brought in to direct The Winter Soldier after Joe Johnson directed the first Captain America film. Cap 3 hasn’t actually been given the official green light yet, but, “Marvel has been so impressed with the production of the film, as well as with strong results from recent test screenings, that the studio has moved fast to attach the brothers to the next installment.” The second film seems to have a very different tone to the first one – it is a full-on “spy-fi” SHIELD film as much as it is a Captain America one with some spectacular set pieces if the trailer is anything to judge by. And speaking of which, the Captain America: Winter Soldier new Super Bowl footage shows more Falcon & Winter Soldier footage – http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=bZquGybHre8. Also there is an epic new Captain America: The Winter Soldier cast poster:

Ant-Man: Ant-Man director Edgar Wright seems to be indicating a ’60s prologue & costume for Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, as he released a bizarre costume model that gives substance to the rumour that the upcoming Ant-Man movie will feature early days origin story, until Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang steals the technology from the older Pym in the future.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Agents Of SHIELD will shortly be introducing Deathlok, the cyborg assassin. It seems that the show is taking a leaf out of Arrow‘s book, and will move away from the Iron Man Extremis / Avengers Chitauri technology, and bringing Seventies cyborg Deathlok to the show. According to Marvel, Michael Peterson, last seen left for dead and awaking from an explosion to find parts of his body missing, will be “transformed into the cybernetic solider against his will, Mike Peterson must struggle to find the man in the machine. With a high-tech eye that allows him to see through walls, super strength and increased speed courtesy of a cybernetic leg, will Deathlok fight alongside the Agents of SHIELD or against them?” “We have been waiting all season for this moment where we can reveal that Mike Peterson’s story arc is an origin story,” said executive producer Jeffrey Bell. “We’re thrilled to have J August Richards playing Deathlok and to have our audience enjoy this favourite Marvel character on the show. If you would have asked when I was nine-years old what I wanted to be,” said Richards, “I would have said a superhero and I’m so excited to be one now as an adult on TV! It’s a dream come true.”

Thor: Within the DVD / Blu-Ray Thor: The Dark World it seems Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth have a hilarious time in the gag reel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jTFiNNTMleQ, and also some deleted scenes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bW96fGj3EL0&feature=player_embedded. And with that also comes the news that Thor 3 is to be in safe hands as Marvel confirm writers Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost for Phase 3. Marvel Studios boss and executive producer Kevin Fiege said, “I am proud of Craig and have enjoyed working with him over these past years. His creative instincts have helped shape Thor and Thor: The Dark World at every level of the filmmaking process. “The entire team at Marvel is very happy to continue collaborating with Craig as he continues as a screenwriter working with Christopher on the forthcoming chapter of Thor’s adventure.”
