Marvel Mutterings: Daredevil & Ant-Man

Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide witterings!

This week: Daredevil in recruitment over-drive, and Ant-Man still hungover from Wright & Cornish!

Daredevil: Marvel have announced the casting of Rosario Dawson for their Netflix Daredevil show, opposite Charlie Cox’s vigilante lawyer. The studio described her (unnamed) character as “a dedicated young woman whose quest to heal the wounds of Hell’s Kitchen brings Matt Murdock unexpectedly crashing into her life, while her own journey forever alters the course of his battle against the injustices of this broken city.” Marvel’s head of television Jeph Loeb said, “Rosario Dawson is one the most charismatic, talented and powerful actresses in Hollywood, so she was always at the top of our list for Marvel’s Daredevil. Her role in the series is absolutely critical to Matt Murdock’s journey to become the hero we know as Daredevil.” The Interweb has of course, jumped the gun, presuming that character will be Elektra, Daredevil’s love interest from the Frank Miller books, last played by Mrs Batfleck, Jennifer Garner in both Daredevil and Elektra. This of course, flies in face of certain facts, mainly that Elektra is explicitly Greek.

Marvel also announced the addition of Matt Murdock’s law partner Franklin ‘Foggy’ Nelson (last played by Iron Man’s Jon Favreau) to the cast – he’ll be played by Mighty Ducks and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay star Elden Henson. “Elden plays one of the most important characters in the world of Marvel’s Daredevil, and we’re thrilled to see Foggy Nelson brought to life by such an incredibly talented actor,” said Jeph Loeb, Marvel’s head of television. “He perfectly captures the heart and soul of this series, bringing an added resonance to Matt Murdock’s fight against the injustice in their great city.”

Ant-Man: Even though they have left the project, the fans just can’t get enough of how much ex-staff Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish’s material is making its way in the Ant-Man movie, so Kevin Feige was quick to reassure fans: “Edgar Wright, who I’ve known for many years, who wrote the draft with Joe Cornish – much of the movie will still be based very much on that draft and the DNA of what Edgar has created up to this point, but Peyton Reed has stepped in [to direct]…Adam McKay, a very good writer is reworking parts of the script – not the entirety of the script, but some of it – and it’s going to, we believe, come to life in the best version of Ant-Man that we could possibly make.”
