In a recent interview, the stark contrast between All-American Hero Steve Rogers and unscrupulous Russian-origin Spy Natasha Romanoff was highlighted as a key storyline in the upcoming sequel: “They’re a wonderful pairing for that reason – they’re opposites,” says co-director Anthony Russo. “Cap is very grounded in the truth; she’s very fluid with the truth. Their personality types are so different, and what they stand for and believe in. To force these two together through circumstances and make either of them trust or not trust one another is a fun dance to watch them do. Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson have worked together several times, so they have a remarkable chemistry with one another. They’re very intimate and knowing.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 director Marc Webb has told how that he made it a priority to make some changes to Ol’ Web-Head’s look: “That is something that I wanted to fix,” he tells us in an exclusive interview. “On the first movie my thought process was really about how a kid would make this costume. The eyes were smaller because those were the lenses he could find – we went out and tried to use material that a kid could find. It was all about trying to make something a little more real. This time around we really just embraced the version of the Spider-Man costume from the comics. We put the belt back on and the big eyes. I realised how important certain parts of the iconography are to the fans. There’s something in the subconscious that reacts really positively to those big eyes. It makes them feel friendly and there’s a primal connection that people feel to that, both as children and adults. We tried to honour the colour and the brightness and the specificity of that costume.” “We liked the bigger eyes from the Ultimate Spidey. It’s interesting. Often the proportions of illustrations are quite different than they are in reality. You like the idea of certain things but the reality is… some of the eyes take up half of the surface area of the face. If you put it in a realistic environment it looks totally absurd and bizarre. Illustrators accentuate body parts and angles and it changes from frame to frame. We’re working in a world of live action.”

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is released in the UK on 18 April.

Ant-Man: Casting news and Watchmen star Patrick Wilson (Night Owl) has been cast in Edgar Wright’s Marvel Phase 3 movie Ant-Man. However, with most of the core roles having been cast now, internet tongues are wagging at whom he is playing. Most suspect a villain, but the problem is that Ant-Man doesn’t really have a rogues’ gallery, outside of his nemesis, Ultron… so who is Patrick Wilson playing?

Ant-Man will be released on 31 July 2015

Avengers: Age of Ultron: star Thomas Kretschmann, who will play Baron von Strucker and much-rumoured father of Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, has revealed there’s more to his multi-picture deal with Marvel Studios. “I have a multi-picture deal which means I will not only appear in the second part, but they’re planning with me for a longer period of time. But I don’t know details yet, they’re keeping their cards close to their chest – top secret!” Talking about his experience making Avengers: Age Of Ultron so far, he added, “I was nervous. I was over-prepared – then on the set I went up to Joss Whedon, who is treated as a genius, and said, ‘This is my first day, this is huge, please have patience with me, I’m a bit nervous.’”
