Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide witterings!

This week: Plotlines out for The Wolverine 2 and X-Men 3?

The Wolverine 2: director James Mangold has teased a few details on the follow-up to The Wolverine, hinting that like his 2013 storyline which was heavily inspired by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller’s original 1982 miniseries, his sequel will also be based on a classic comic: “I would just say it is always going to be about his relationships to other characters,” said Mangold. ”We are very much trying to work with existing text. “There are other great Wolverine stories out there but suffice it to say there are great texts about his connections to others, villains, characters from the lore and from the comics that we can bring out and have another great and meaningful adventure.” When questioned about the use of the yellow and black Wolverine costume that Logan is given in the DVD alternative ending, Mangold explained that within the context of the Marvel mutant movie-verse, it just wouldn’t work. “A lot of fans keep asking about when he’s going to wear his uniform,” said Mangold. ”It’s a struggle for us in relation to question, because Logan’s personality as developed onscreen and in comics is one in which he hates publicity. The filmmakers, even on X-Men, have struggled with an outfit. Finding the rationale for a uniform when the character disdains self promotion, why he would put on some outfit that promotes himself as some kind of hero? It’s like Dirty Harry didn’t walk around with special outfit.” Wolverine is the Dirty Harry of the X-Men… I like that notion…

X-Men 3: Apocalypse: the sequel to X-Men: Days Of Future Past has been confirmed for a 2016 release by Bryan Singer on twitter, clarified to an actual release date as 27 May 2016. Singer likes riding on the back of other people’s publicity, gazzumping them as he does it (witness his Quicklsilver announcement before Whedon did), so it’s no surprise that this tweet comes as The Amazing Spider-Man 2 trailer is released. Age Of Apocalypse would appear a fitting choice to follow Days Of Future Past, set in an alternative future where Professor X is accidentally killed in an assassination attempt on Magneto while the two are still friends, leaving the latter to found the X-Men in his name. Age Of Apocalypse shows a ruined world ruled by the fanatical mutant Apocalypse and in this timeline the X-Men are divided, with some like Cyclops serving Apocalypse and others, like Wolverine and Jean Grey, opposing him. First featured in a 1986 comic, Apocalypse is the very first mutant, born 5,000 years ago in Egypt. A ruthless proponent of the dictum “survival of the fittest”, he is immortal, never ages, and has no end of superhuman abilities. Thanks to alien technology he can also alter his form… and he’s a genius too. Sufficed to say, this role will be hotly contested and no doubt the internet will go wild when it is announced!
