Marvel News Round-Up: Wolverine on Spiderman, Sackhoff as Ms Marvel & Thor in London

marvel-logo1 Whether it’s Fox, Sony or the Marvel stable themselves, here are the world-wide mutterings!

Hugh Jackman Wolverine Cameo for Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man – the undisputed King of Marvel character appearances (9 so far!), Hugh Jackman, has let slip that he was all ready to claw his way onto the set of Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man, “In the first Spider-Man – Kevin Feige reminded me of this – we really tried to get me to come on and do something, whether it was a gag or just to walk through the shot or something.”

He continued, “The problem was, we couldn’t find the suit. The suit was stuck in some thing. And so when they were in New York when I was there, we couldn’t get it together. So, you know, I actually asked some high level people about it. Because the optimist in me goes, ‘Why not? Why can’t we do it? You know, a split cast or whatever?’ And someone reminded that the amount of money Fox paid compared to the amount of money Disney paid is very different [laughs]. So how you split that pie up? God knows.”“But in the comic-books, what’s great about it is they’re just mashing together all the time – and it’s awesome. And people are like, ‘Yeah, well, let’s get this one with that!’ And, you know, I still think, one day, there may be an ability to do it.”

So nice when you have an actor who knows and cares more about what the fans want, than the studios!

Katee Sackhoff to be Ms Marvel in Phase 3 Captain Marvel – Marvel One-Shot Peggy Carter and Item 47 director/producer Louis D’Esposito confirmed that Marvel are looking to develop a Captain Marvel/Ms Marvel vehicle: “There’s obviously a drumbeat that is banging louder and louder that we want a female lead superhero [film]. [W]e have strong female characters in our films from Black Widow to Pepper Potts to Peggy Carter and you never know. Maybe there’s an offshoot film with one of them. Or Captain Marvel, you know?”

“It’s hard, because we have a small group at Marvel. We do two films a year. To get those two films done and to do them right takes a lot of work and manpower. And female-power, obviously. To add a third film and to just put it in the slate right now is difficult. We have these next three, four, five films coming out and that’s what we’re really concentrating on.”

One of the Marvel Universe’s most powerful superheroes, Carol Danvers was an air force pilot who has Kree powers similar to the original Captain Marvel; after assuming the name Ms Marvel and leading the Avengers for a time, she became Captain Marvel herself. Battlestar Galactica and Riddick star Katee Sackhoff, currently at the center of Ms Marvel/Captain Marvel rumors, was asked explicitly if she met with Marvel, and she clearly trying to dodge the question,“Um… There’s been some stuff going on. Um… there’s been a lot of checking of availability… I don’t quite know exactly… I don’t know… there’s been a lot of questions about the first quarter of next year.”

movies_thor2-616x880Early 2014 is when filming is expected to begin for Avengers: Age Of Ultron, and as the original Kree Captain Marvel frequently fought Thanos, this could be a cameo for her as Carol Danvers, the US Air Force fighter ace, laying the foundations for a transformation to Captain Marvel at a later date and a larger role in Phase Three and later Avengers movies.

Shame she isn’t quite as loquacious as her Riddick co-star… you can’t shut him up on FB when he’s been in a room with Marvel
