Doctor Who Logo - 2010 VersionThat sound you’re hearing? Well, its a load of sonic screwdrivers going haywire as Matt Smith is likely departing from the Doctor Who franchise.

In an interview with VH1, Smith confirmed he won’t be sticking with the role past the upcoming 7th series. He’s going to be trying his hand at Hollywood!  “I’ve got another year of Doctor Who,” he said, “but then I’m certainly going to come and give it a shot, come and hang out in LA.”

Are you ready for the 12th Doctor or will you be missing the 11th?

And we thought he was going to be around for a long time. Hopefully he changes his mind, or at least that the next actor doesn’t treat the show as a way to gain fame in America. Maybe an established actor would be more willing to stick around.

Three years tends to be common trend for Doctor who. Hartnell, Troughton and Davison stayed with tthe tv show for 3 years, besides Moffatt will likely try to keep him til 2013. 2013 is tthe 50th anniversary
