Merlin’s Colin Morgan Wins Best Actor at NTA’s

cm_nta2013The people have spoken! You could hear a massive cheer go up in The O2 in London last night when the name “Colin Morgan” was announced. At last night’s National Television Awards, the talented Irish actor beat out Sherlock‘s Benedict Cumberbatch and Doctor Who‘s Matt Smith, who were the heavy favorites going in for “Best Drama Performance: Male”.

If you weren’t able to watch the show live and see the excited faces of the Merlin cast when Morgan won, Twitter came to the rescue:

Of his win, Morgan said:

This award is a true testament to the amazing support of the public, it will always be a reminder for me of the love people have for the show, the great times I had, the hard work of everyone involved and how lucky I am to be doing what I’m doing. I want to send my huge appreciation to everyone who voted for me and for giving me this tremendous honour.

And those Merlin movies that were hinted at during Comic-Con last year? They’re not looking so good. First Bradley James confirmed he wouldn’t be involved and now his co-star states almost the same thing: “I don’t think that’s going to happen, but who knows – let’s see what happens when the future comes.”

But there’s always a silver lining and even if it’s not a Merlin project, Morgan would definitely love to work with his former cast-mates again: “We’re definitely going to stay friends. We just made loads of friends on the show – that’s the important thing, I think.”

Watch the video to see Colin winning his award and the amusing faces of his cast-mates when the winner of Best Drama was announced. I couldn’t help but laugh!
