Microsoft Announce New Xbox One SKU Without Kinect For £349

In another major U-turn from its original announcement a year and to combat the lead PS4 currently holds over the Xbox One, Microsoft has announced a new Xbox One SKU that doesn’t include a Kinect camera. The new bundle will include a console and controller and cost £349 in the UK and $399 in the US making it the same as the current PS4 RRP and £50 less than the existing Xbox One.

The new SKU will go on sale on 9 June, in all current markets where Xbox One is sold. The original Xbox One with the Kinect will continue to be sold for £399 and $499. Microsoft also confirmed that they would start to sell stand alone Kinect units for those wanting to buy one at a later date.

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer said. “We’ve heard that you want more choices from Xbox One. You want a wide variety of options in your games and entertainment experiences and you also want options in your hardware selection.

“To be clear, as we introduce this new Xbox One console option, Kinect remains an important part of our vision.”

“Many of you are using Kinect for Xbox One every day. In fact, more than 80 percent of you are actively using Kinect, with an average of 120 voice commands per month on each console.

“We will continue to offer a premium Xbox One with Kinect bundle to deliver voice and gesture controls, biometric sign-in, instant personalization, instant scanning of QR codes, and enhanced features only available with Kinect in games such as Kinect Sports Rivals, Just Dance 2014, Project Spark and more.”
