Microsoft Drops Xbox Live Gold Requirement For Accessing Entertainment Apps

Microsoft have announced that from early June Xbox One and Xbox 360 owners will will no longer require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access apps such as Netflix, Amazon Prime and other entertainment, music and sports apps starting in June.

As with its earlier annocnment of the non Kinect Xbox One SKU, this move is aimed to make the Xbox One more competitive with Sony’s PS4 and PS3 which both do not require a paid subscription to view entertainment apps.

Access to online multiplayer, free Games with Gold, Deals with Gold, and other Xbox Live Gold features will still require a paid annual subscription to the service.
