The BBC is currently running its Make it Digital season and naturally, Doctor Who provides a perfect fit for the campaign.
Mission Dalek is about creating a bit of a prequel to the Doctor’s encounter with the Daleks in this year’s series of the science fiction show.
As an extra incentive to get people creating, selected winners will be rewarded with a visit to the set of Doctor Who where they will spend time with Peter Capaldi, Daleks and more!
Here’s some information from the team:
The Doctor is about to face his oldest and greatest enemies in Doctor Who series 9, but what has led him to confront the evil Daleks once again? We can only tell you it’s an adventure with thrills, excitement, fun and that fans of the show have the opportunity to create it.
Audiences can create their story from scratch using new alien enemies from their imagination, or they can use Daleks, Missy and other Doctor Who monsters. Using clips and pictures supplied by the Doctor Who team (found here bbc.co.uk/missiondalek), or video that fans shoot specially on their phone, tablet or camera, it’s an opportunity to create something special and imaginative, that’s full of Doctor Who passion and adventure.
There’s no need to know about the upcoming episodes except they involve the Time Lord taking on the mighty Daleks. There are ‘how to’ videos and tools to help develop digital skills and ignite audiences’ creative flare on a new website – bbc.co.uk/missiondalek – which also provides a step-by-step guide on how to get involved. And you can follow @bbcdoctorwho and check out #MissionDALEK on social media for all the latest updates.
As someone who has spent time learning to create digital content from scratch (web sites, magazines, podcasts and videos), I think this is a great initiative from the Beeb. Even if you’re not considering entering the Mission Dalek itself, the video resources are worth checking out.
The chance to visit the set and meet the Daleks? Well that’s just icing on the cake!
