Mobile Game Temple Run Hits 1 Billion Downloads

We all know that the popularity of mobile gaming has grown massively the past few years with more people gaming on mobile devises such as mobiles phones and tablets than on dedicated gaming systems like the 3DS and PS Vita. Now ImangiStudios, the developer behind popular mobile game Temple Run has announced that the game had been downloaded 1 Billion times on various mobile platforms since launching in 2011.

Last year Temple Run 2 was released and there have been spinoffs based on Disney moves Brave and Oz: The Great and Powerful. A Temple Run movie is also in the works at Warner Bros., with Harry Potter producer David Heyman attached to the project.

ImangiStudios revealed that the player have played over 32 billion games and have run a total of 50 trillion metres. They also revealed that the  games largest market was China with  36% of the games downloads coming from there, and that 60% of players are female.

The figures from China could be a very encouraging sing for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft with Chins recently lifting their 14 year ban on consoles system sales and Sony and Microsoft announcing they will start selling consoles in China later this year.

Previously Angry Birds was the first mobile game to reach 1 billion downloads.
