New Horror Anthology Comic from IDW: In The Dark

Great news for fans of the horror anthology comic, and of comics in general. IDW is launching a new comic called In The Dark in April. Starting off as a Kickstarter project from Rachel Deering (Anathema), In The Dark is a creator-owned comic book which features 20 original horror stories from some great horror writers and artists. Deering – editor on the anthology – says that ‘this book is the 8-year-old Rachel’s dream come true. I wanted to make something that, had I found it on the shelves as a kid, would have been my favorite book of all time.’ So, this is a proper horror comic from a horror fan to a horror fan.

Just who is involved? Writers including Justin Jordan, Cullen Bunn, Steve Niles, Duane Swierczynski, Tom Taylor, Tim Seeley, Brian Keene, F. Paul Wilson, Ed Brisson, Marguerite Bennett, Valerie D’Orazio, Paul Tobin, James Tynion IV, and many more. The art on show comes from Nate Powell, Tradd Moore, Damien Worm, Tyler Jenkins, Drew Moss, and Andy Belanger, amongst others. This mix looks like it will ensure a variation of styles and themes; enough to keep any horror fan happy. For a full list of the talent, check out the Kickstarter page:

Ah, so what format do these 20 stories come in? A monthly series? Digital only? Nope. What you get is a glorious 250-page hardcover introduced by Batman and American Vampire author Scott Snyder. There is also an in-depth look at the history of horror comics by comic book historian Mike Howlett. What more could you ask for? Sounds great and I for one, can’t wait!

In The Dark is IDW’s latest anthology to publish under its banner, alongside Womanthology and the prose anthologies V-Wars and Zombies Vs. Robots: This Means War!
