New Images from Doctor Who: Day of the Doctor

doctor who logo smallDum de dum, dum de dum … We’re just over a month away from the Doctor Who fiftieth anniversary story, Day of the Doctor which sees not one, not two but three incarnations of the Time Lord, including a previously unknown incarnation, appear together on our telly-boxes. Today, a number of images from the episode have been released and none of them are very spoilery, so I thought I’d share them here. Click on to see the shots!

I’m really looking forward to Day of the Doctor, which airs on Saturday 23rd November 2013. The episode will be broadcast simultaneously in over two-hundred countries. A sign of just how popular this once-niche show has become in recent years.

I’m mostly interested in how the Tennant and Smith Doctors interact – both before and after the Hurt incarnation is thrown into the mix… I always loved the bickering that was introduced between the Second and Third Doctors in their first meeting during the tenth anniversary story in 1973, as well as Peter Davison’s exasperation with his other selves in the Five Doctors. Personally, I think these two later incarnations would get along quite well!

There are numerous theories about John Hurt’s appearance, but given the confirmation of Daleks appearing (along with another classic series foe), echoes of the Time War that serves the background for the new series ring true to my ears.

The story also features the return of Billie Piper as Rose Tyler as well as UNIT’s Kate Lethbridge-Stewart (Jemma Redgrave) and Matt Smith’s current companion, Clara, played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.
