The Minister of Chance Season 2 and Movie Coming in 2015

If like me, you’re a really big fan of audio drama then you more than likely have come across the brilliant The Minister of Chance.

Radio Static, the production company behind the fan funded project have announced that a second season is in the works.

Eager fans or ‘Chancers’ – who include author Neil Gaiman and The Walking Dead’s Melissa McBride will be able to find out what happens to the mysterious Minister (Julian Wadham) and his bad-tempered sidekick Kitty (Lauren Crace) early next year.

The Minister of Chance originally began as a character played by Stephen Fry in a 2001 Doctor Who webcast Death Comes to Time. Producer of the webcast Dan Freeman (Dante’s Inferno) decided to take the character into his own spin-off podcast series in 2012. The series has gained an enormous amount of support from fans and has earned rave reviews.

A successful crowd funded prologue movie was made starring Paul McGann (Doctor Who) and Tim McInnerny (Blackadder) which has now led  to the production of full movie and if that wasn’t enough, you can get to own a part of it!

Alongside the announcement of the next audio instalment comes the news that fans will have the opportunity to own part of the The Minister of Chance feature film, to be shot in 2015. Uniquely, the film will be made in four episodes of film quality, so that funders can watch each episode online as soon as it is finished. It will then be released theatrically when the full movie is complete. Fans are being invited to own shares in the movie from £20.00.

With recent crowd funding success stories as the Veronica Mars movie , this is another example of content makers going to their fanbase for support. Dan Freeman had this to say about the decision to go in this direction.

“It’s very cool, the fans have been working for this project from the start, and it really is theirs. This way they actually get to really, physically own it.”

Radio Static also announced that the investment scheme will –

– be overseen by new Exec Producer Rob Graham, best known for indie hit film ‘The Machine’ starring Caity Lotz and Toby Stephens, which scooped three BAFTA Cymru awards, the Best of UK Film Award at Raindance, and the Achievement Against the Odds Prize at the British Independent Film Awards.

This is incredibly exciting news and the folks at  The Minister of Chance are keen on filming in the UK but spoiling fans further with a convention!

The movie will be shot in the production team’s home county of Cheshire in the North West of England, with the hope of bringing business and tourism to the area. Local businesses and employers will be able to sponsor transport, accommodation and meals for the cast. A Minister of Chance convention is now in the works for autumn 2015 which will also be held in the county, and this is also expected to bring in a legion of fans to meet the famous names involved.

I don’t know about you, but 2015 is shaping up to be a great year already.
