No Heroics review

I have to admit that when I saw the press release for No Heroes, the new sitcom from ITV2 my heart sank, I groaned out loud and my expectations took a dive. The last time the British tried a superhero ‘comedy’, it was called My Hero and was the biggest bag of nothing you ever saw, and I was expecting much the same here. It focuses around 4 losers, Timebomb, the Spanish, gay, knife wielding retired hero that can see 60seconds into the future; Electroclash, she can talk to machines and has got an attitude the size of a small town, She Force, the third strongest woman in the world with fitting relationship problems and perhaps the biggest loser of them all – The Hotness – who has heat powers – which comes in really handy for preparing those ready meals. They spend most of their time hanging out in a ‘capes’ only bar The Fortress in which No Heroics are allowed.

Then I saw the trailer and though “hmmm…this looks better than I thought”. So I sat down to watch the first episode and I laughed out loud. The first episode is really about getting to know the characters a little and there were moments so cringe worthy I had to look away on a second viewing. It’s the bit with the tattoo just so you know.

Apart from the Hotness reminding me a little too much of David Mitchell from Peep Show, I loved all the characters.

It rude…no scrub that…it’s filthy, it’s got a ton of bad language and I thought it was hilarious. You don’t need geek credentials to enjoy this because essentially it’s not about superheroes it’s about life mates and a good pub. This is superhero humour done Brit style and I’m really looking forward to the rest.

For a bonus when you do watch it see if you can spot references to 2000AD, Green Lantern, Shazam, The X-Men and more in the background. If you can’t wait until Spetember 18th at 10:30pm on ITV2, you can actually watch the first episode now by going here

If ITV had full episodes on their site, I’d be in heaven!

ITV won’t allow anyone outside of the UK watch this. So please someone post it somewhere where we geeky americans can enjoy it too. I keep replaying the trailer I can’t get enough of it!!

Gah! I know. Why must I be kept away from great television just because I live on the different side of the pond?

I know how you feel guys. We had a moan about how long things take to cross over to us from the us and visa versa on our latest episode. It pisses me off. In this day and age there must be away to allow people from the UK (or anywhere in the world ) to watch US or shows from anywhere shows via streaming when they are aired in the US and then they can be recorded in the viewing figures or something.

It’s a shame 🙁 as we were lucky enough to watch the first 3 episodes and it’s good stuff.
