PS4 Pre-Orders Held For Ransom By Online Retailer

PS4 4
SimplyGames has sold out of its PS4 stock, and so from 3rd October has emailed its customers who have pre-ordered the console saying that they must upgrade their purchase in order to retain their unit.

The retailer has said that they are guaranteeing a system on launch day if two or more consoles are purchased. Those who have ordered the basic £350 unit will have to upgrade and now pay between £415-£470 in order to stay in the pre-order queue for launch day.

However some of the bundles contain unofficial duel-charging cables – confirming that his bundle has been assembled by the retailer and not by Sony.

Some of the blame seems to be going Sony’s way in that they have supplied more bundles and less standalone systems than anticipated. However Sony are denying these claims saying:

“Sony is not and would not force anyone to buy something they don’t want. We value our consumers and offered the bundles precisely to give them choice and value. And the key word there is choice.

We continue to work closely with our retail partners to ensure we offer this choice against the challenges of managing demand and inventory in the climate of amazing excitement and unprecedented demand for PlayStation 4.”
