Ready Player One, the sci-fi book by Ernest Cline, has been given a release date for the film adaptation by Steven Spielberg.
Ready Player One is, without a doubt, one of my favourite books. A dystopian sic-fi riddled with pop culture references, it takes a look at our own world in 2044. We are living almost entirely in a virtual world called the OASIS, which we have become so dependant on, that we’ve completely neglected the real world. It’s a dark look at what our world could potentially become and that’s kind of crazy to think about once you’ve read the book.
My first choice of director would have been Edgar Wright, given the phenomenal work he did with Scott Pilgrim, but I think Spielberg will handle the adventure side of things pretty well. Zac Penn is down for adapting the book for screen. Spielberg, Donald De Line, Dan Farah and Kristie Macosko Krieger are set to produce, with Bruce Berman as exec producer.
With the film being set to release on Dec 15th 2017, you’ve got a while to get your hands on a copy of Ready Player One to have a flick through. Or you can download the audio version. It’s narrated by Will Wheton, so it’s amazing.
Have you read Ready Player One? If so, what are your thoughts on the book and do you think Spielberg is right for the role? Discuss in the comments below!
