RIP Liz Sladen – Confirmed

Earlier tonight reports on twitter were circulating that Liz Sladen, best known for her portrayal of Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who, had died at the age of 63.

She was a regular on BBC’s Doctor Who 2 doctors Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker, and has reprised her role many times since then. She first joined the sci-fi show in 1973 and stayed on for three and a half seasons, before leaving in 1976.

There has been a massive out pouring of sadness on twitter from fans and celebrities alike.

The information we have is pretty slim at the moment, but the main speculation is that she has died of complications due to a battle with cancer. I am unable to find any confirmation at all for this incredibly sad news and i am right now hopeing and preying that this is some horrible mistake.

More info to follow is and when we receive it!

UPDATE: The BBC are now reporting the sad news that Liz has died. Still no official announcement from her family. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

Man I have to tell the kids. They will be really upset. Shocking news. I met her last year at the SFX Weekender 1. I had no idea she was ill.

      • i’d wait until we have official confirmation, no need to upset the kids if it turns out to be a sick joke

    • yeah, i’ve seen the tweets from several other people close to her and her family.

She if it was cancer she kept it quiet, it was the first i had heard about it too

  2. The Dr Who magazine is now reporting this… it’s looking to be true…

Didn’t even know she was ill
