Robot Overlords – The Novel!

Gollancz announce their acquisition of the novelisation of the forthcoming British science fiction film, Robot Overlords.

The film might be an independent film by the cast and crew have an impressive track record. Director Jon Wright is best known for the critically acclaimed 212 movie Grabbers, and it stars include Gillian Anderson (The X-Files), Ben Kingsley (Iron Man 3) and Callan McAuliffe (I am Number Four). Wright co-wrote the script with debutant Mark Stay, and it is he who is writing the fully authorised tie-in novel.

There is already a buzz around the film, which is currently in post-production and due for release early 2015. You can follow all the exciting updates on Twitter @Robot_Overlords The movie itself follows a group of teenagers in the wake of Earth’s invasion by Robots. Human survivors are confined to their homes. No one knows why. No one knows what they want. There is only one clear message: Robots never lie. Nor do they show mercy . . .

Meanwhile, the book is aimed at a young audience, around 9-14 years old, and will contain ‘extra scenes, bonus material for attentive readers and fans of the film, and illustrations’.

Mark Stay said: ‘Piers, Jon and I talked about a book from the very beginning, and we’re huge fans of those classic 80’s movie tie-in novels. I couldn’t be more excited that Gollancz are the publishers. If you want the world to share in your fun, action and robot carnage, you go to the best SF publisher in the business.’ Piers Tempest, the producer of the film, said: ‘We are delighted to be partnering with Gollancz for the novelization which will really take the reader deeper into the world of the Robot Overlords.’

The book (paperback and e-book) is due out around the same time as the film, early 2015, and I for one, will welcome our new Robot Overlords.
