Scott Snyder, Jim Lee Team Up for New 2013 Superman Comic

A surprise announcement at last week’s New York Comic Con was the pairing of smash-hit Batman writer and all-star artist Jim Lee on a new Superman comic. It will debut in 2013 as part of the character’s 75th anniversary, and will coincide with the arrival of the new Superman movie, Man of Steel.

At Thursday’s Superman panel at NYCC, Scott Snyder said, “We’re going to try to deliver to you the biggest and most kick-ass Superman story we can. I’m writing the features and the back-ups.” He then added: “It’ll be big and game changing, but have a lot of intimacy, a lot of American History. This is the Superman story I’d tell if I could only tell one before they kicked me right off.”

“Scott kind of walked me through this incredible story,” says artist Jim Lee, “and I started visualizing the story in my mind immediately. I was describing what we’d do with camera angles, story telling, narrative. That discussion turned into us doing this new Superman book.”

“For me it’s a nice departure, too, going onto a solo book instead of a team book,” Lee continues. “I was a huge fan of Scott’s work from the beginning of American Vampire. And obviously the Court of Owls stuff just blew my socks off. He’s got a great story… which I can’t tell you about.”

There is currently no release date or official title, but given what Scott Snyder has managed to do thus far on the Batman comics, this could be something interesting.
