SDCC 2012: TV & Movie News – The Hobbit, Merlin, Once Upon a Time, Community & More

The announcements are coming fast & furious with the news of which shows & films are making an appearance in San Diego. There’s been plenty of articles around the fact that movie studios aren’t putting as much stock in the geek convention as they used to but we’ll see about that now won’t we? With so much to go around, I don’t think we’ll be lacking in panels to attend!

Geek Syndicate will be at the big show so keep an eye on this space for SDCC news and let us know who you’re looking forward to seeing the most!

The latest announcements are:

DATE/TIME UNKNOWN

  • Once Upon a Time – TV Guide Magazine’s William Keck announced that he’ll be moderating the panel for ABC/Disney.
  • Legend of Korra – The popular sequel to the Avatar: The Last Airbender animated series will be getting two panels at SDCC this year – a proper series panel and a fan panel. The news was confirmed by creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino.
  • Django Unchained – Quentin Tarantino will be attending SDCC with an offsite event
  • Psych – Dulé Hill confirmed via Twitter that USA Network’s longest-running original series will be returning
  • Being Human (US) – Sam Witwer tweeted confirmed that the show would again be back at the con
  • Merlin – With news of the upcoming Merlin online game being released, one mentioned that the cast would be present to try out the game at SDCC. Waiting for confirmation on any panel news.
  • Breaking Bad – It’s first appearance at the con confirmed by actor Bryan Cranston.

THURSDAY, JULY 12

  • Dexter – Ballroom 20 – In attendance will be series star Michael C. Hall, Jennifer Carpenter and season 7 guest star Yvonne Strahovski (who most people will recognize from Chuck) along with executive producers John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton & Scott Buck.

FRIDAY, JULY 13

  • Monster High – The news was confirmed by the the voice of the animated Abbey Bominable, Erin Fitzgerald, on her Facebook page. This will be the first panel for the popular toy line from Mattel.
  • Community – Ballroom 20 (10AM) – TV Line’s Michael Ausiello tweeted that Community would be back at SDCC this year, but without series creator Dan Harmon, who knows what the reception will be like.
  • Game of Thrones – Room TBD (3PM) Cast attendance unknown but likely Q&A and maybe some S2 DVD extras. I’m assuming they’ll go to Hall H this year like the other big shows after the mess of trying to get into Ballroom 20.
  • Joss Whedon Panel – Ballroom 20 (5:30-6:30PM) – I’ve been to many panels where Joss was the main attraction or just speaking for a few minutes. Regardless, a panel for the man behind Marvel’s The AvengersBuffy the Vampire Slayer and Dr. Horrible will be very popular.
  • Spartacus – Room 6BCF (5:45PM)  Liam McIntyre (Spartacus), Manu Bennett (Crixus) and Steven S. DeKnight will have a panel with Q&A

SATURDAY, JULY 14

  • Warner Bros. Pictures and Relativity Media Panel – Hall H (2-5PM) – Both studios will have a shared panel showcasing Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim and most likely be The Hobbit and Man of Steel.
  • Shameless – Indigo BallroomWilliam H. Macy, Emmy Rossum, Justin Chatwin, Jeremy Allen White, and executive producer John Wells are attending with more surprise guests.
  • True Blood – Ballroom 20No news on which cast members will be in attendance but it’s sure to be a popular panel as always
