SDCC: Bear Mccreary Delights Fans with Special Performance For Screening of Pirate Drama ‘Black Sails’

ComicCon_071813_5MSP7913You know I had planned to write this post with a whole load of pirate jargon but I got as far as typing ‘My hearties’ and ‘A bottle of rum’ and I quickly realised two things…

1) I suck at pirate jargon.

2)I really want a bottle of rum now.

Well before I run off on a rum soaked sabbatical (until the next SDCC post comes through) I can tell you that Starz, the company who showed us just how many cool ways you can sever limbs in the Spartacus series, are now riding the high seas with their new pirate adventure Black Sails.

“Black Sails” centers on the tales of Captain Flint (Toby Stephens) and his men and takes place twenty years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic “Treasure Island.” Flint, the most brilliant and most feared pirate captain of his day, takes on a fast-talking young addition to his crew who goes by the name John Silver (Luke Arnold). Threatened with extinction on all sides, they fight for the survival of New Providence Island, the most notorious criminal haven of its day – a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

Lucky swallywags (yes great pirate word!) attending the SDCC were able to get a first showing of Black Sails along with series stars Zach McGowan, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Mark Ryan, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, and series creators Jonathan Steinberg and Robert Levine. What really made me wish I could have got my brit ass over to San Diego was one my fave composers Bear Mccreary or as I like to call him ‘The Dancing Bear’ was not only there but gave the crowd  a performance to kickstart the screening…damn his scurvy eyes!

While I find the nearest bottle of rum..have a watch of the trailer.
