SDCC: Paul Cornell Teams up With IDW to Celebrate Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special

A Doctor Who special comic will be released in the final week of 2013 and will be written by fan favourite Paul Cornell and artwork by Jimmy Broxton…

IDW have been working with BBC Worldwide since 2007 producing Doctor Who comics, and even introduced the first-ever Doctor Who crossover in 2012 – Star Trek: The Next Generation/Doctor Who in the series Assimilation 2. IDW launched a new ongoing series led by writer Andy Diggle, Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time The partnership will conclude following the end of these 50th anniversary celebrations in December.

They have released the following information about what we have in store:

A strange force flings the TARDIS and the Doctor into our own universe! Once here, the Doctor encounters a 10-year-old girl who happens to be a huge fan of the Doctor Who TV show. The Doctor grapples with being a fictional character as well as and a monster lurking at the girl’s school on the way to coming face-to-face with the actor who portrays him, Matt Smith!

DW Annual

The fact they have Paul Cornell writing this story really intrigues me and I’m sure they will finish with a great story.

BBC Worldwide are expected to announce their plans for 2014 within the coming weeks.
