Sequels for Evil Dead & Army of Darkness

evil-dead-remakeJust in case one new Evil Dead movie wasn’t enough we are going to get Evil Dead 2 and……Army of Darkness 2.

Whilst taking part in a Q&A at premiere of the new Evil Dead movie at South by Southwest Film Festival, director Fede Alvarez, confirmed that they are already writing a sequel to the new film.

And a couple of weeks ago Sam Raimi revealed that he and his brother Ted are working on a screenplay for Evil Dead 4. However Rob Talpert said that it would actually be more of Army of Darkness 2.

When Bruce Campbell was asked how he would feel about Ash returning he said:

“Sam threatens this every six months,” he told us during the same interview. “I’ve heard this a thousand times, because in the back of his mind, he never wants to let go, because he loved making these movies. We all loved making them together. They were a nightmare to make, very difficult, but they lasted the test of time, so he’s not going to let that go, and I’m never going to say ‘no.’ It’ll be me and a walker fighting some other old guy. But that’s what he does and who knows? It may happen.”

So what can I say about the prospect of Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness 2? Only one thing – Groovy!

Can’t wait for Army of Darkness 2 if this ever happens. Even though it’ll most likely be disappointing as living up to the first Army of Darkness is a tough ask.
I know the second film is generally classed as the best of them all, but I have to say that Army of Darkness is my favourite of all the Evil Dead films, it just never tries to take itself seriously at any point with such silly humour throughout.

  2. Based on how every other franchise from my childhood gets treated in today’s modern times (Indiana Jones, Terminator, Die Hard, etc.), I am hoping Raimi decides against this.
