Shoppers Stunned By Live ‘Teleportation’

Star-Trek-Into-Darkness-Trailer-LogoShoppers at London’s Westfield shopping centre in Stratford looked on in awe at what appears to be the world’s first successful teleportation attempt.

However it was in fact a stunt by top illusionist Scott Penrose and Blinkbox (TV streaming service) in order to celebrate and advertise the release Star Trek Into Darkness.

The teleportation trickery was achieved using a combination of science and illusion. It caused a stir among thousands of shoppers who witnessed ‘volunteers’ from the crowd step into a high-tech unit and appear to have been ‘beamed’ to nearby locations in seconds.

Unbeknownst to the shoppers each person who stepped inside the device had an identical twin. Through clever lighting and magic the first twin appeared to be beamed away, while the second twin appeared in the distance moments later looking dazed and confused.

Ben Ayers from blinkbox comments:

“Star Trek Into Darkness is one of the biggest releases of the year. We wanted to mark its arrival with an audacious spectacle straight out of the franchise itself – human teleportation. Since Star Trek first hit our screens, the idea of being able to teleport from one place to another, although it is not scientifically possible, has captured the public imagination.”
