Star Trek DVD and Blu-Ray details announced!

I just picked up this news from Variety that J.J Abrams’ Star Trek will be hitting the shops on Nov17 with all kinds of cool extras. By far though the coolest extra, for me, is an interactive tour around the enterprise.

With the packaging feature dubbed “augmented reality,” consumers will be able to hold their disc packaging in front of any standard webcam to unlock an interactive hologram on the computer screen, through which they can tour five cabins on the Enterprise, even shooting enemies from the ship’s deck.
Before J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek stormed the box office, the official Web site was chock full of teaser features, including a virtual tour of parts of the new Enterprise.

If you’re planning to pick up the Blu-Ray version of the film you will be treated to a feature which allows you to get live feed from Space via NASA.

This is shaping up to be one hell of a package. I mean I was planning to pick it up on Blur- Ray anyway as I loved the film but now I’ve got so many more reasons to have this in my Blu-Ray collection.
